Hi, my name is Pem Ravern, I am 47 and live on the outskirts of Canterbury. I live with my wife Marie (Yes, I did say wife!), my 3 step children, my dogs Tyson and Princess and our cat Mojo.
I was educated in Surrey where I grew up in a happy household with my parents and two older brothers. I have had many jobs over the years including communications and retail until recently I was a funeral arranger and Director for 10 years which I believe has sent me on the path of being a civil celebrant. Being a Funeral Director I spent a lot of time with bereaved families and believe I have a caring, compassionate nature with a warm and friendly disposition and a great understanding of families’ needs. I have no particular faith in a God but do believe in a higher power.
As a celebrant I feel I can give families and couples the right to decide what kind of service they want, whether a wedding, funeral or baby naming ceremony. I have a passion for celebrating life and death in the right way. I wouldn’t want a judgemental minister of God telling me how I should be feeling and telling me what I should do and not do, each person in life and death is an individual and should be treated as such.
As a civil celebrant I believe I can give each service the individuality it deserves. I feel life skills are more important than written qualifications and am proud to say I have 47 years of those! I look to involve all the family in creating a special day for your wedding/civil ceremony, funeral, baby naming ceremony or renewal of vows. I will not tell you what you can say but work with you to create a service individual to you or to the person who has passed away. Celebrations, ceremonies and traditions have existed since the year dot.
Every culture has their own way of celebrating and saying goodbye to someone, there is no right or wrong way. As I say, I will work closely with you in order to fully understand the memories that you wish to create so you have a day to remember for all the right reasons. Individuality is the key to a lasting happy memory. So, whatever brought you to my page, I hope I can help you and ultimately hope we can share this journey together.
