Nikki Main | Family & Funeral Celebrant

Hello, my name is Nikki Main and I live in Newcastle upon Tyne. Although born and bred in the North East, I have lived in various places. From Lossiemouth in Scotland to Leicestershire and 3 years in Germany. I settled back in Newcastle in 2004 and started my career with North East Ambulance Service. Firstly, on patient transport, then as an Advanced Technician. I qualified as an HCPC Registered Paramedic 8 years ago and achieved a BSc Hons Degree in Practice Development (Paramedic Practice).

Choosing to become a Family and Funeral Celebrant seemed to be a natural pathway for me to follow. I have met, helped and worked with a wide variety of people, from all ages and all walks of life. I have laughed, cried and been heartbroken over the years. Some things I wish I could unsee and some people I wish I could meet again. As much as I love my work, I have reached a time in my life where it’s time for change.
When I attended my first non-religious funeral over 10 years ago. I remember how beautiful it was, how I learnt more about the person as we celebrated their life and not dwelling on them dying. I have attended a few more since then, but without being rude to the humanist or celebrant, I thought I could do that, but how different I would deliver it, by being a bit more emotive and expressive, not just reading the words.
I put the idea to the back of mind. It wasn’t until one of my best friends said, when we were at a bit of a low point in our lives, especially with work. They said that old cliché, “life’s too short, we’ve got to do what makes us happy”.
I researched how I could become a celebrant, not realising there are various options. United Kingdom Society of Celebrants (UKSOC) stood out from the others, offering various courses and different ways to learn. I’m now thrilled to say I now have my Diploma with UKSOC and looking forward to what may lie ahead.

As a Family and Funeral Celebrant, I can offer ceremonies for Funerals, Memorials, Remembrance, Weddings, Civil Ceremonies, Renewal of Vows, Naming Ceremonies and Script Writing. Or any other life event you may like to celebrate. All ceremonies will be bespoke, it’s you, the client and what you would like. I will be there to offer help, ideas and advice along the way, should you need it and officiate and deliver a personal, memorable ceremony.

If you want something plain and simple to something mad and outlandish, I will be happy to accommodate. However, I’m not very good with heights. So, jumping out of an aeroplane or standing near a cliff edge, I might have to recommend you to another colleague. The same applies if you would like to involve spiders, but I’ll be ok if they’re not real ones. Let me help you “celebrate your life event, your way”.
