Hello and welcome! My name is Martha Oster and I am a proud member of the UK Society of celebrants. I current live within walking distance of Crystal Palace park in South London with my husband, and a baby on the way!
Growing up in a vicarage, I watched my dad prepare and perform all sorts of ceremonies, though I never considered celebrancy as a career until two of my best friends asked if I might be the celebrant at their wedding. Every part of writing and delivering that ceremony was new and exciting, though I found it drew on many of the skills and talents I accumulated in my previous career as a teacher. I loved being given the opportunity to help friends and family join together to support the couple.
As a trained counsellor, I believe that using ceremonies to mark key events in our lives is part of creating a healthy attitude to the reality of our lives on this earth. I love the new beginnings and hopefulness of Wedding Ceremonies, and the joy of welcoming babies into the world through Naming Ceremonies, but I also value the importance of celebrating a person’s life and loves through Funerals. I believe that a funeral is an important first step in dealing with our loss.
My aim is to create a ceremony that feels personal to you, and that you and our loved ones can treasure in your memories forever. We will work together to plan something that isn’t constrained by legal, or religious wording - but can be as creative, or as traditional, as you desire.
