My name is Christine Parker and I am a trained and registered Secular Civil Celebrant. My role as a Celebrant is to assist you to achieve an occasion that best celebrates the day that you would wish for, for yourselves and your loved ones. Whether you are celebrating new life, the joining of two people in marriage or civil partnership, renewing your vows or saying goodbye to a loved one, together we can create the ceremony that best reflects your wishes. I am neither a Humanist nor an atheist; my aim in working with you is to help you celebrate love and life.
In doing this together we can also celebrate the diversity of an individual’s talents and skills, their life experiences and beliefs , their gender, race, social and cultural backgrounds, as well as their spiritual, social and any other needs. My journey to becoming a Celebrant has been long and joyous over a number of years. As both a trained and qualified Social Worker and Therapist I bring to the role over 25 years’ experience of working with people during times of trauma in their lives as well as supporting them through life changing events. I have also worked extensively with members of the LGBT community.
A number of years ago, along with my mother, I had the responsibility of arranging my father’s funeral following his sudden death. The funeral was a very traditional event lead by a religious minister. Following the service, both my mother and I felt uncomfortable about the finality of the event that didn’t really reflect my father’s personality or individuality. A few years later when my mother passed away, I worked with a Celebrant to design a bespoke celebration of her life which was a positive experience for both friends and family.
I can offer you an opportunity to create your perfect ceremony or celebration, an alternative to a traditional religious ceremony; a dignified, meaningful and memorable occasion. You may be looking for inspiration, someone to shape a ceremony or breathe life into plans you already have. Together we will work towards agreeing a final programme, a day of celebration and ceremony. Although my work and home base are in Sussex, I am more than willing to travel within the south of England and beyond providing the additional travel fits into my schedule.
