Wedding and Funeral Celebrant in Devon
Hello, I am a Wedding and Funeral Celebrant in Devon. Living near Exeter, I am delighted to conduct ceremonies anywhere in the South West, and further afield. I conduct whatever and whichever ceremony you feel appropriate to mark a point in life.
When Julian and I met and married, we did so in a Registry Office followed by a meal. A nice enough wedding and the simplicity suited us at the time. However, there was always a nagging thought in my head that it didn’t reflect our personalities – we had some lovely friends singing whilst signing the register and another read a poem which were wonderful, but it was quite frankly, bland. This was partly due to the peeling paint on the walls of the council run room despite the dress code being “hats encouraged, no ties”.
A few years later, needing a change of career I saw an advert for a celebrant whilst visiting Glastonbury. Everything clicked into place - having been a PA in a law firm for many years, working in the Senior Management Team where delivering presentations, managing and recording meetings, coordinating large events were every day tasks, my skills seemed ideal for the role of Celebrant.
Our honeymoon was spent in North Korea and other travel includes Iran, India, Greenland, bunkers on the Maginot Line. I have driven from the UK to Gambia with two girlfriends in an old Jag. Conversations I have had with people on my travels have expanded my understanding of different experiences and cultures around the world.
I understand about the twists and turns of life. I have been married, remarried, have children, stepchildren, grandchildren, a cat and a tortoise. Our cat introduces himself on any video call!
Many people are curious about the role of a Celebrant. I see it as a curator of memories, and a listener facilitator. I will listen to your stories, encapsulate them and incorporate them into memorable days for you, your family and friends.
I care about helping to mark a moment in life. Creating treasured memories which reflect the essence of a person, whether it be a naming day, a funeral, or a wedding ceremony. I will make the ceremony personal; creating a unique experience in which the person, the couple, or the child, is central and the focus of the ceremony.
I specialise in quirky, unusual ceremonies - whatever you want, wherever you want, however you want. I am more than happy to dress up to match a themed ceremony too.
Music can be evocative, moving and inspiring: I am delighted to work with families and couples to find an unusual piece of music or a poem. But if there is a particular piece which is meaningful, of course, let me know and we can incorporate it into the ceremony.
Many people employing a Celebrant will not have any religious references in their ceremony, but if you chose them, I am happy to oblige.
I have tried to live a full and creative life. Friends kindly describe me as energetic; original; mad as a hatter (I am also a milliner); loves fancy dress; finds solutions; creative thinker; great at party games; loyal; compassionate, loves a list and organises everyone. I hope this gives a flavour of who I am.
