Funeral Celebrant in East Sussex

Hello my name is Kerry and I am your Funeral Celebrant in East Sussex, Kent, and London, working with you to create the perfect ceremony that puts your needs at the heart of everything we do together.

"Rituals and ceremonies give meaning to our years" Charlie Jordan

I came to celebrancy by way of having spoken at ceremonies for my family and friends on numerous occasions, and from having MC'd many business events that required a good speaker or ceremonial content of some kind.

My previous professional background working in the NHS as a registered nurse and, subsequently, in senior leadership roles in the marketing industry, equipped me with the skills and capabilities that help to make a celebrant good at what they do. A love of people and their well-being. Patience, kindness and calm in difficult times. A good sense of humour (very important!). And a deep understanding of the power of storytelling, presentation, and communication skills when important words need to be said.

The opportunity to pay tribute to someone, to the life they have lived, sharing precious memories, offering words of comfort to those they have left behind - to be of service at an important moment in someone's life - is a privilege.

Although I live in London, I work mainly in East Sussex and Kent. Having a very understanding husband and a now grown-up family gives me the flex to work in this beautiful part of the world.

When I'm not working, supporting multiple competing football teams (the outcome of the range of club fandom amongst my family members!), a good book for a quiet hour, or a very long walk in the countryside with my husband, are all particularly good for the soul.

A funeral ceremony is not only the meaningful celebration of your special person. It can also be a path towards helping you to move on, to find comfort in celebrating the memories, stories, and significant moments of their life. Working with someone with warmth and understanding can make this so much easier and, maybe, lead to some smiles or laughter along the way as you recall those special memories.

"There is only one rule for being a good talker - learn to listen." Christopher Morley

You may have some very clear ideas on how you would like the funeral ceremony for your loved one to be. Or you may be at a complete loss as to how to begin to even think about what it could be like. Whatever your feelings or thoughts, my role is to listen to you with care and attention, working with you and for you to make sure that this important moment is as you would want it to be. Right for everyone who matters, and right for the person who is gone.

"Storytelling is a fundamental part of being human" Christine Hennebury

Any ideas or wishes you have are important; my approach to the creation of every ceremony is to be flexible, open-minded, and inclusive. From helping you to think about readings and music that are meaningful, to creating the ceremony and writing the story of your loved one's life, through to delivering the personalised ceremony on the day, you will have my experience and support.

I'm told by others that I'm very easy to talk to, that I put people at their ease, make them feel heard, and am always kind. That's probably the best advertisement I have.

If you would like to have an informal chat about how I can help you, please do get in touch.
