Sue Bevan | Wedding and Funeral Celebrant

Hi, I'm Sue and I am an Independent Family, Wedding and Funeral Celebrant in the North West. I am lucky enough to live by the beach in sunny Southport, Merseyside, well it's sunny sometimes! After bringing up my wonderful three children, my son followed fifteen months later by identical twin girls in beautiful Buckinghamshire, I decided to move back to the Northwest where I grew up, and where my heart is.

Originally, I was a professional dancer, who toured Europe with the Vienna Festival Ballet and the Broadway Musical Company, performing in many productions from Swan Lake to West Side Story. I also spent some years as Cabin Crew with British Midland Airways, a Health Care Assistant at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and had my own business teaching Public Speaking and Communication Skills to professionals and sixth form students.

My more recent career has been as Head of Prep Drama in a wonderful, independent girl's school. Alongside this, I also trained and I am now a LAMDA examiner, which I love so much, as it is such an honour to share student's work, and ensure that they have a memorable and positive experience, even when they are sometimes very nervous.

My work has bought me into contact with such a wonderful and amazing variety of people and I have loved the opportunity to bring out the best in all situations. This led me on to realise what a joy and pleasure it would be to use my transferable skills as a Civil Celebrant.

I adore getting to know new people, and listening to their hopes, ideas and dreams for any type of occasion or ceremony. Being able to play a small part in such a special and truly memorable event is an honour, a privilege and incredibly rewarding.

To me, one of the most important and wonderful part of being a Civil Celebrant is the personal element, and I value and take great care in ensuring that every single ceremony, whatever the occasion is fully bespoke. Ensuring that you are not just heard, but truly listened to, is what can enable your personalities, vision and wishes be completely fulfilled.

Capturing the momentous and magical start of the next stage of a couple's journey through a wedding ceremony, can truly reflect a relationship and it's journey so far, as well as all their hopes and dreams for the future. From a simple ceremony to something more elaborate, I can help guide and suggest traditions and symbolic gestures which can add even greater dynamics and memories for the special day. This can also be done with naming ceremonies, civil partnership ceremonies and the renewal of vows.

With a funeral and memorial service, the importance of being able to celebrate, remember and share the life of a lost loved one, in a manner that reaches all friends and family is primary. Understanding their life and their journey, along with their achievements and experiences are fundamental in creating a very personal, respectful and meaningful service. Through words, music, silence and ritual acts people share grief, love and special memories that help mark the transition from a life with a person to a life without them.
